Clubhouse Refresh

Clubhouse Refresh: Modernising the Old Wimbledonians Association (OWA)

The Challenge:
The bar and lounge area of the OWA sports club is the heart of its community, but it was in need of a creative lift to make it more inviting for members. The project required a delicate balance: it needed to be budget-friendly and durable for a busy sports club, whilst respecting the deep history and legacy of the Association.

The Homebird Approach: this project was particularly close to my heart. Supporting my husband during his 5 year tenure as the OWA Chairman, I took on the role of lead project manager on a voluntary basis to help the club achieve a high-end look on a community-focused budget. I coordinated various specialists to ensure a professional finish within a community-focused budget.

Design Collaboration: I worked with an old friend on the interior design to develop a cohesive colour palette and layout that felt fresh yet timeless.

Heritage Hall: I curated and rehung legacy artwork and photographs, ensuring the club’s history was showcased with the prominence that it deserved.

Comprehensive Refurbishment: I sourced suppliers and products, briefed decoraters, and oversaw the installation of new flooring, ceiling repairs, and a complete redecoration throughout the bar and hall.

The Final Details: from managing the electricians to rehanging the club’s prestigious awards boards, I ensured every element was perfectly placed for enjoyment by members for years to come.

The Result: a transformed clubhouse that the OWA members are proud to call their own. By combining modern design with a deep respect for the club’s "Old Wimbledonians" roots, we created a space that is functional, welcoming, attractive and deeply connected to its heritage.
